Editorial standards
Good for kids. Clear for grown-ups.
thekidspick is a carefully edited directory for parents, educators, and families. We help people find worthwhile digital and real-world resources without pretending that one score can replace judgment. Every listing is a starting point: useful context, clear trade-offs, and enough detail for an adult to decide what fits a particular child.
What we review
We look at websites, mobile apps, video channels, games, downloadable materials, museums, libraries, and other places or services that children and their grown-ups may use. A listing can have more than one format, subject, audience, or access model. We keep those attributes separate so families can build useful lists instead of relying on vague labels.
How a score is built
Scores are editorial signals, not scientific measurements or guarantees. We consider the following dimensions together:
- Learning and discovery value: Is there something meaningful to explore, practise, make, understand, or discuss?
- Age fit: Does the language, interaction model, challenge level, and independence expected match the listed age range?
- Experience quality: Is the resource understandable, usable, accessible, and reasonably calm to navigate?
- Trust and evidence: Is there a credible publisher, institution, educator, or transparent source behind the content?
- Access and family context: Are pricing, registration, advertising, platform requirements, privacy considerations, and adult guidance clear?
What “free” and “ad-free” mean here
We do not assume that a free page, a free app, or a free account has the same experience. Listings distinguish free access, registration requirements, paid options, platform availability, and advertising signals when we can verify them. If a claim is unclear or may change, we say so and recommend that adults check the provider’s current policy.
Evidence and freshness
We use the provider’s own pages as the primary source for what a resource offers, then record supporting context such as age guidance, platform links, screenshots, and parent notes. Screenshots show the experience we reviewed; they are not endorsements and may become outdated. We review important listings periodically and correct information when a provider changes its product, access model, or URL.
Independence
Listings and scores are not sold placement. A provider may suggest a resource, but inclusion is not guaranteed and editorial evaluation remains separate from promotion. We disclose uncertainty, commercial context, and meaningful limitations rather than hiding them in a score.
Corrections and suggestions
If you spot an incorrect age range, broken link, outdated screenshot, missing platform, or misleading attribute, please suggest a correction or resource. The best directories stay useful because people help keep them honest.
For parents and educators
Children differ. Preview a resource, check its current privacy and advertising practices, and use adult guidance for accounts, downloads, external links, purchases, and community features. Our directory supports better decisions; it does not replace supervision or a provider’s current terms.
